Speaking of newsjacking, sporting goods brand Decathlon got a digital billboard and offer together within 24 hours of last week’s global IT outage.
The message subverted Microsoft’s Blue Screen of Death, with a smiley face, a QR code, and the copy: “Outage? Get outside. Enjoy 50% off on our outdoor goods.”
“We know Canadians are struggling to find time to exercise or just get outside,” says Marie-Lou Blais, director of marketing at Decathlon Canada. “When we saw the news, we took it as a sign and moment to encourage all of us to unplug and unwind.”
