Are You Friendly?

Last week, we challenged you to do a quick audit of your website performance. Today, we’re challenging you to make sure your website is user-friendly.

Let’s get after it:

1. Respect the flow: This is no different than walking into your local coffee shop and ordering (insert drink of choice). You wait in line, you order, you receive your order.

Folks have come to expect a similar website experience…

  • Logo in top left of screen
  • Contact information in top right of screen
  • Horizontal main menu navigation in the header at the top of each page
  • Search bar in the header
  • Social media follow icons in the footer

We’re all for creativity, but in the words of Donald Miller…“when you confuse, you lose.”

2. What’s most important? You have about 2.6 seconds to make a good first impression. To create a good user experience, it’s crucial that your site has a visual hierarchy.

Think about these factors when creating your visual hierarchy:

  • Size
  • Color
  • Contrast
  • Position
  • Negative space
  • Alignment

3. Are you credible? Have you ever been on a site where you have to click on a bunch of different pages just to find contact information? Don’t be like that. Folks want to see information on your product or service, contact info, and pricing. Don’t make them work for it.
