Challenge: You have to get traffic to your website without relying on Google or spending any money. What do you do?
That’s a really good exercise to think through from time to time because you should always be looking to diversify your traffic.
Why? Well, what if Google kills your organic traffic overnight? Is that going to hurt your business? Maybe. But, if you start diversifying now, it won’t be bad.
So where else should you look for traffic? Here are a few ideas:
- SlideShare is a hidden gem. It’s basically PowerPoint with an audience. Take your webinars and presentations and upload them to SlideShare. Search Engine Journal does this with great results. You can even repurpose high performing blogs and upload them as a presentation.
- LinkedIn publishing will get you noticed. LinkedIn has a built-in blog publishing platform. You can repurpose your blog posts on this platform and reach a larger audience than just those who visit your website.
- Join the conversation in Facebook groups. We love FB groups, and they can be a great way to drive traffic. But, don’t spam the groups you join. Be social, engage with other group members, and if a situation comes up where you can drop a link to your website in, do it!
- LinkedIn groups attract industry professionals. Similar to FB groups, LinkedIn groups can be an amazing source of traffic.
- Twitter chats drive traffic. Go to Google and search for “Twitter chats [the category you are interested in]” and find lists of relevant chats.
- Get traffic with knowledge through Quora. Quora is a Q&A site with 190 million monthly users. People ask questions about basically every industry. All you have to do is find a question you can answer, and answer it (with a link, if it makes sense).
- Give help, get traffic on HARO. We <3 this one. HARO puts reporters in touch with industry experts. Reporters ask a question and you’ll have a chance to answer it. If the reporter likes your answer, they’ll include it in their article and usually link back to your website.
Still a handful of other traffic sources to go…
