The Conversation

This week, a member of The Daily Carnage Facebook group asked:

“We have been having this back-and-forth in our office about efficiently using marketing time. One person pretty much insists that working on getting more 5-star reviews on Google will bring us more business than concentrated ads on Meta. I have never been a strong believer in reviews of any type, but I am willing to listen. What say all of you?”

Here are some responses from our community of experts:

  • “They serve different functions. Ads are a vehicle for getting in front of eyes who either don’t know you or may be in the beginning if a purchasing cycle. 5-star reviews can be a great support tool to push sometime into the purchase decision. Use them both for max success.”
  • “Reviews will definitely help optimize the organic local search.”
  • “Social ads are going to get people to SEE you. The reviews are helpful to get them to seal the deal and purchase, but that’s lower down the marketing funnel.”
  • “Unless you are tracking attribution you’ll be making a best guess.”
  • “Ads are for driving people to your auctions, reviews are to help consumers decide if they wants to do business with you. That being said, reviews don’t bring in customers, but they can drive away leads. Having factual reviews are far better than having only 5-star reviews.”
