What up, fam!
Friday was a day like no other for the Carnage. It was the day of our first ever marketing conference, the Yearly Carnage.
The energy, inspiration, and tactics shared by our speakers were above and beyond anything that we could’ve hoped for.
We just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who attended, spoke, or supported the event in other ways. Y’all rock!
But, because we spent the entire day on Friday meeting, listening to, and learning from others, we actually forgot to write the Carnage for today. That’s the first time we’ve ever done that in the history of our newsletter.
And we felt bad. So we pulled the team together on a Sunday, and we’re giving you some highlights from the conference. Even if you couldn’t make it to our day-long marketing party, these highlights will give you a taste of what you missed.
Here goes…
Tara Gentile kicked our day off with a talk about community building. We took a huge nugget of gold away from her talk:
When it comes to community building, you need to create the space for your community and then get the hell out of the way. A community isn’t about you. It’s about bringing people together and strengthening their relationships.
Stop broadcasting your brand. Just bring people together and it’ll happen organically.
aljaeorfja;ldk can’t handle Tara’s genius!
Storytelling pro Alyssa Catalano‘s approach to selling has set her apart from anyone else. She doesn’t focus on the product at all, but rather the story behind it.
Here’s a quote from Alyssa that all marketers should write down, frame, and hang on their walls. “What are you selling? Not the product, but the story behind it.” [Tweet this quote]
Dan Gurwin was the next man up. Dan recommended that we all step away from social media to find inspiration.
Next time you’re stumped on what to write your next blog post on, don’t creep on your competitors. Instead, pick up a book or go for a walk. Make your own inspiration, and most importantly, “Trust your weird.” [Tweet this quote]
Jaymie Tarshis, a Facebook ads guru, took the stage. If you’re looking for Facebook ads advice, Jaymie is the woman ya gotta talk to. She recommends running three different styles of Facebook ads for huuuge results.
- A social proof ad where you use a happy customer’s quote in the ad copy.
- An education ad where you use potential customers’ pain points to knock down objections. All you have to do to get this info is ask someone, “Why haven’t you bought from us yet?”
- And a reminder ad. This one just puts your brand back in front of someone who hasn’t purchased. But please, for the love of everything, don’t be salesy here.
So, so, so much more from the day that we truly can’t sum up in one email. Check the hashtag #Carnage2018 on Twitter and Instagram for even more.
And don’t worry, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled email tomorrow.
Much love,
– The Carnage Crew
