I think it’s safe to assume that most of us are familiar with a tri-blend t-shirt. If you aren’t, just think soft, vintage feel. Michelle Sharp, marketing director at Cotton Bureau has seen her fair share of tri-blend t-shirts. They’ve sold over 300,000 shirts since their inception in 2014.
When you sell over 300k shirts, you get to know your customer really well. Michelle kept hearing common complaints from female customers. They wanted a shirt that fit them. The problem with American Apparel (the go-to brand for tri-blend t-shirts) was they only made shirts that fit a very specific body type.
Michelle and her team wanted to offer the best customer experience possible, so they launched ‘Blank,’ a size inclusive t-shirt made in the USA for men and women. The shirts range from XS-5XL. After a successful Kickstarter campaign raising over $95k, the team knew they were onto something.
During my interview with Michelle, we discuss how she landed in marketing, what you need to do to stay up on current trends and much more.
