The upside of getting a rebrand right.

🧠 Marketers need to know when to switch between creativity and optimisation.

🌈 Brands are leaning into ā€œanalog escapismā€ as consumers look to unplug, get creative, and reconnect IRL.

What To Know Before Rebranding

A brand can be doing perfectly fine and still start to feel a little… tired. Maybe the business has evolved, the messaging hasn’t kept up, or the visual identity is starting to look a little too familiar. And when that happens, the instinct can be to throw everything out and start over.

But a full rebrand isn’t always the answer. Sometimes, the brand already has plenty of recognition and equity worth keeping. The better move might be figuring out what feels outdated, what still works, and where a few intentional changes could make the whole thing feel more relevant.

So where should you start?

  • Audit the brand: Look across your website, social, ads, sales materials, and other customer touchpoints. Find what feels outdated or inconsistent.
  • Ask your audience: Compare how your team describes the brand with how customers actually see it. The gaps can be telling.
  • Protect recognition: Identify the colors, type, symbols, or other elements people already associate with you before changing them.
  • Revisit the messaging: Your logo might be fine. Your three-year-old homepage headline might be the real problem.
  • Check accessibility: Test color contrast, typography, and how the refreshed identity works across different devices and contexts.
  • Build a system: Update templates, guidelines, social assets, presentations, and other places where the brand actually shows up.
  • Test before launch: Put the new identity in front of people outside the project and see if they still recognize it.

A refresh should make the brand feel more current without making people wonder if they’re looking at the right company.

Don’t miss the latest episode of The Daily Carnage Show to dive into the dark patterns that have been a UX and marketing problem for years. Now, they’re increasingly becoming a legal one.

In this episode of The Daily Carnage Show, we’re looking at Meta’s growing legal scrutiny over the design of Facebook and Instagram—and what it could mean for marketers, UX designers, and anyone building digital products.

We break down what deceptive design and ā€œdark patternsā€ actually are, including manipulative defaults, difficult cancellation flows, buried information, infinite scroll, autoplay, and other design choices that can steer users toward decisions they might not otherwise make.

We’ll also look at the bigger question behind the current litigation: When does persuasion become manipulation, and when can a company become legally responsible for the way its product is designed?

Prepare for Fugu

What’s more relaxing than sitting down for a nice meal and wondering if the chef might accidentally poison you?

Sapporo is giving Australians and New Zealanders the chance to experience fugu, the famously poisonous Japanese delicacy, with a trip to Japan to dine on it prepared by a licensed chef.

To launch the campaign, a psychological thriller-inspired film leans into the fear of the meal, turning every bite into a potential life-or-death situation. Apparently, sometimes dinner just needs a little more suspense.
