The Daily Carnage Show

AI Is Killing Entry-Level Marketing Jobs

If AI handles the research, first drafts, reporting, keyword research, and routine execution, how are the next generation of marketers supposed to gain the experience they need to become senior marketers?

In this episode of The Daily Carnage Show, Shannon explores AI’s impact on entry-level marketing jobs and the potential talent pipeline crisis that could follow.

Companies are already hiring fewer junior employees as AI takes over foundational tasks. But those “boring” tasks are also where marketers develop judgment, critical thinking, strategic instincts, and creative voice.

So what does an entry-level marketing job look like when AI can handle much of the routine work? And how do we make sure we aren’t optimizing ourselves into a future shortage of experienced marketers?

Shannon breaks down the entry-level talent crisis, the rise of AI-native marketers, the importance of mentorship and apprenticeship, and what young marketers can do to build real expertise in an AI-first world.

Takeaways

What We Learned

Monday: According to new data from Socialinsider, organic social reach is continuing to decline, particularly on Instagram. The company analyzed more than 872,000 posts published by brand pages between January 2025 and August 2026, and found that Instagram’s reach rate fell 14% year over year. As of August 2026, the average Instagram reach rate was 3.2%, compared with 1.25% on Facebook. How should marketers adjust?

Tuesday: Stop treating TikTok as a standalone social channel and start treating it as part of a larger content ecosystem. The goal isn’t to go viral, but to build a repeatable system that turns attention into something more valuable. That starts with understanding what TikTok is actually good at: discovery.

Wednesday: There’s a difference between repurposing content and simply posting the exact same thing everywhere. Start with one core idea and one core asset, then make a handful of small adjustments so it feels native to each platform. You don’t need to create four completely different posts. You just need to stop treating Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Pinterest like they’re the same place. Here’s a surprisingly simple framework.

Thursday: 47% of U.S. adults have deleted a social media app because of stress. Another 55% say they post less frequently than they did five years ago, while 51% say maintaining an online presence feels like too much work. That creates a problem for brands that have built their entire acquisition strategy around social. More expensive ads + less engaged audiences = diminishing returns. Here are three ways to adapt.
